When I started Mothers of Daughters nearly 10 years ago (MOD Squad back then) I remember imagining my life as mom when my girls were:
19
16
13 (nearly)
10
I wondered what kind of women they’d be becoming and I wondered if I’d ever stop worrying. I knew back then that the time would fly. In that regard, my predictions were true.
I blinked and here we are.
So much has happened in these last 10 years. We have seen miracles. We have experienced hardships. But over and through it all God has held our family in his hands.
My girls are all unique. If you have more than one you know the temptation to compare is great. But I look at each of them and I see one need they all have. It is the same thing I’m always going to need as well—whether they are 9 or 19.
My one great need is to know God more.
Enjoy God’s Word
The best way I can do that is through his living, active Word, which tells exactly who God is. I’ve been studying lately in the Old Testament (having been in the New for months and days) and do you know what God says about himself when Moses asked God to show him his glory? He says exactly what he means to say:
“6 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6-7
God told Moses his name - the LORD (he repeated it just in case Moses missed it - the LORD).
God told Moses who he was - what he was like: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness
God told Moses the extent of his love - keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving sin
And what was Moses’ response?
8 “And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped.”
Moses went low with the weight of the glory of God.
I want to know God like that. To behold his glory. To experience him fresh every day and to reflect that to my girls at 19, 16, 13, &9. That is my only hope as I walk today and the next 10 years which will bring more change than I want to know about today.
For now I’m grateful it is Saturday. They are all sleeping in. I’ve made some fresh granola, drank my 2nd cup of coffee, and tucked truth in my heart after spending my time with Him.
To know him more.
Looking Forward,
P.S. One way as busy moms we can KNOW God more is to study with other women. I am part of a fully online Bible Conference called Enjoy God’s Word.
