Years ago I remember sitting on the floor of my daughter’s bedroom while she toddled around playing with her toys and looking a chunky board books. We would sit in her room every day after lunch and the minutes would drag by until the golden hour of nap-time when I would tuck her in her crib with a kiss and turn on her favorite music. Shutting the door behind me I knew I had a couple of hours to myself. It was pure heaven. My plan during those days was to complete a chore, think about what in the world to have for dinner, and spend some sweet time with Jesus filling up my heart with his Word.
Last week, that same baby girl, now sixteen, had her 2nd week straight of shows and performances and I think I spent a sum total of 40 plus hours in the car driving her back and forth. Long gone are the quiet slow dragging minutes of nursery floor sitting and quiet time during her naps. I have realized that if my heart is going to draw near to Jesus I must have some sort of plan in place. This is even more true during the long summer months when our routines are completely flipped upside down.
I’ve also learned this to be true:
If a mom doesn’t find bread for herself, she will have nothing left to give to anyone else.
“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
I desperately need to soul food Jesus is offering to me in the form of his word. Don’t you?
My Mom Tip for May is this: Make a plan today to be in God’s Word this summer. And, it doesn’t matter if you are sitting on the nursery room floor or sitting in the car. This is for all moms. Why not do it together?
When my friend Brooke McGlothlin and I started writing the new Hope for the Weary Mom 40-Day Devotional, we wanted to put something in your hands that would take God’s truth and intersect it with the daily realities of a weary mom’s life.
We know it’s tough. We know it’s hard. We know it’s sometimes hard to hear God’s voice or believe his promises on the really, really weary days.
But we also believe it’s possible, so today, we’d like to issue you a challenge.
Would you consider giving God the next 40 days of your life?
With the Hope Devo as your guide and the encouragement of almost 1000 other moms like you, we invite you to take the [#startwithhope pledge]. Each day, Brooke and I wills end you a short email based on your reading for that particular day. It will be kind of like a pep-talk to keep you going each day as we walk together.
It’s free (*after the cost of the book) and it might be one of the most important things you ever commit to. There’s really nothing more important to a weary mom’s life than digging into God’s word every single day.
So go ahead and take the plunge…and pledge to start with hope.
Sign up to #startwithhope
The #startwithope plan begins on Tuesday May 31st. You have plenty of time to grab a book and find a few minutes each day to read your devotion and pray. I usually spend my time with Jesus in the morning with a giant sized cup of coffee? What will be your plan?
I am looking forward, with HOPE!
xo,
Stacey
