I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Psalm 139:14
One thing I long for my girls to know is they are fearfully and wonderfully made. I want them to understand they have been made by God to glorify him. He has uniquely gifted each one and I look intently with expectation for sparks to follow or moments of wow they will see his handprint upon their lives.
I saw one a couple of months ago in my second oldest daughter. Her artwork was chosen to hang in a hospital gallery and they sold it for $60. That was exciting but the part that made it all worth while was the name tag they gave her with one simple word under her name:
Artist
It wasn’t that we didn’t have an idea God was moving in this direction in her life. We have spent hours upon hours sitting at the kitchen table painting. She has taken classes and read books about art. Her eyes light up when she has the chance to create anything with her hands. She is in every way an artist.
But this day, with it in black and white right before her eyes she started to believe it.
Part of our job as moms is to help our kids find out who God has made them to be. This is no easy task. I’m discovering it takes a determined eye and lots of patience as we watch our girls play, pretend, and practice their way into being the fearfully and wonderfully made young women God already sees in them. We get a front row seat to the becoming.
Along the way it helps to have resources to reinforce this message in their lives. My girls need little reminders they are made for a purpose and different from other girls. They are U-Neek you might say. The thing is, just about the time our girls find out they are different the world wants to tell them they are weird. How neat would it be for us to drop a sweet note into their lunch boxes to remind them they are created by God and he thinks they are awesome.
Because they are.
DaySpring* has a new line of plush toys, cards, stickers, and much more to help busy moms like us reaffirm in our girls their God calling to be U-Neek. My girls and I are in love with these sweet creatures. How could we not be?
You can crush on them too by checking them out on the DaySpring * website or dropping by your local Walmart or Hobby Lobby. They even have their own app which I can’t stop playing myself.
Sometimes, even moms need a reminder.
