Do you have a niggling concern in the back of your mind as you watch your young girls grow into their surroundings through the year. They adapt to their world of social media, texting, and input from google, teen magazines and websites. When the world is speaking more loudly than we are, and there ideas, thoughts and worldviews are a little shaky to say the least.
This isn’t a test. It is not a measure of how much “knowledge” and information they are getting that might be on the “up and up.”
This is real life. The nitty gritty. Those heart pressing questions that they may not dare to discuss with their friends, and when they come to a cross -roads, they make a decision based on …what?
Mothers - I have been asking myself many “in my face” questions lately. It is easier to think I am “covering the bases” with my girls when I am home with them, answering questions about school, friends, the Bible, and relationships. But I am seeing my gaps… and while they stare at me wide, I also know God is helping me fill them in.
It all begins with wonder. Our daughters begin to wonder if their faith is REAL. They wonder why their moms are so concerned with their appearance, and actions, and attitudes. Wonder precedes searching. It is a lost art in this generation to spend real talk, real one on one time in the nitty gritty of life with our daughters. When they are little girls we love so easily. It is such a natural thing to pull our little girls up next to us to read and talk. Our gift of love in this way is so well received.
Why stop? It is my challenge to this new generation to reach into your schedules, your libraries, and your humility storehouses to read with your daughters this summer.
It will take effort, abandonment of all expectations, and realizing we are not to expect our “love tank to be filled,” but their moral consciences to be sparked, trained and pure.
Be overcomers of the world! Claim your right to mold and train your daughters as they grow..at every and any age. It never stops.
Read together through your summer days. Plan, prepare and make it a priority.
