This week I was reading Hope For The Weary Mom in my car, because that is when I read books, during the ten minutes of solitude I can steal during preschool carline. And I kept dog-earing pages that talked about the weight of comparison. It’s such a recurrent theme in mom-life, isn’t it? Some days it feels as though I am so lacking in all of the skills needed to be The Best Mom.
I find that when I am running weary in motherhood it is because I am trying to be too many things.
I loved this quote from the book that said “We weren’t created to be good at everything, but we’re great at some things. Let’s vow to let God use us effectively in those areas and fill the gaps with His grace and good friends”

I drew across those words with my highlighter because that felt like breathing room. Then I closed my Pinterest tab, went to Target, and bought store bought Valentine’s for my daughter to pass out at her school party.
Later I came across this verse in John, chapter fifteen: “I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love.”
I was so struck by the second part of that verse, the invitation to just make myself at home in God’s love.
That is hope for when this mom runs weary.

Kayla,
I’m so VERY glad God is meeting you in the mess…even if it’s in the car line
