As our girls head back to school, my heart brims with emotion. And so today, I, we, as moms join together in prayer….
Lord God, today we moms lift our hearts up to you
In prayer for the precious little girls
You’ve entrusted to us.
We lift this to you, Jesus.
Comforter God, these new school years are bittersweet
We are grateful for the excitement that comes
In new teachers and times with friends and opportunity to grow
And yet we are sad for the little in our girl that is lost,
Their steps closer to independence.
Lord help us navigate each step of the way.
We lift this up to you, Jesus.
Saving God, we pray our girls’ hearts would be led by You
That in the midst of all the voices and all the fears and all the excitement
You would reign the strongest guide.
We pray that they would be a light
And emulate Your love through kind words and thoughtful action.
We lift this up to you, Jesus.
Teaching God, we pray over their learning,
That they would not only grow in academic understanding
But that they would grow in faith understanding.
That they would see you at work in the pages of their textbooks
And the conversations filling their day.
We lift this up to you, Jesus.
Relational God, may our girls’ friendships mirror health.
For any unhealthy interactions, situations, or temptations
We beg Your intervention.
Lord place Your hedge of protection around their hearts
And give them eyes to see
So that You may be glorified in the bonds they make
And nurture.
We lift this up to you, Jesus.
Peaceful God, we ask a joyous connect with their teachers.
Empower all in teaching and support roles with calm
To help bring out each child’s best
And promote constant growth throughout the year.
We lift this up to you, Jesus.
Father God, we as moms yearn for your nearness.
Help us disregard Satan’s questions about if we’ve planted enough seeds
And prepared them enough for what they will face.
It is his way of distracting our focus from You.
Be our all in all.
Be our girls’ all in all.
Let us stake claim in Your parenting,
Which directs us as mothers
And fills our girls’ hearts with the love and confidence
That comes in being Your daughter alone.
Amen
And now that I’m done leading prayer for our girls, how can I pray specifically for you/your girl this academic year? If anything is on your heart please leave it in the comments and know that I will lift it up. This is community….

I so needed this today! Next Tuesday my two girls will start school here in Virginia, where we moved just two months ago. They are both nervous and scared because they don’t know if/how they’ll make friends, how they’ll get along with their teachers, and for one of them, how she’ll find her way to her classes in a school she’s never been in before. All of it weighs heavy on my Mama heart because the decision to move lies with her father and I, and we don’t want them to “suffer” because of a choice we made. Please pray that my girls would quickly feel at home in their schools, that they would form solid, positive friendships, that they would find things to be happy about in their new schools. I am especially concerned about my middle school girl because she is what we like to call a “free spirit” and does not fit into anyone’s mold of what a 13 year old girl should be. Kids can be so cruel and she is so soft-hearted! I worry about her being the target of bullies because it has happened before. My 5th grader is effervescent and makes friends easily (we call her the “friend magnet” because everyone wants to be her friend) but even she is nervous and off-balance because she doesn’t yet know this new school. I’m trying to be positive for their sakes but inside I’m a big ball of anxiety! This week we get to do the “meet the teacher” thing at each school so maybe that will help them feel a bit more comfortable, or at least less lost. And me too.
So many prayers coming your way. I’m praying for God to present the right “first friends” in their path, that their teachers would sense their needs and be responsive to help them better slide into their year, and that they would feel confidence in who God made them to be so that they can confront their first days rather than their first days confronting them. If God inspired this move, He will help you through all the details!
Thank you. I have a 7th grade girl and a 1st grade girl. Please help me pray for them to be focused on learning and not so much on social aspects of school. Also, please help me
Pray that they continue to grow closer despite their age difference. Thank you.
I’m on it! Praying that they find joy in their books and learning tools as well as see the gift of sisterhood in your home.
Please pray for my sensitive 7th grader who is stressed to tears that none of her friends from last year are in her classes. She tends to be shy and lacks confidence to just be the fun-loving and thoughtful person she is and make more new friends this year. I want her to just be herself and know that the “right” friends will always be her friends.
Middle school is stressing this momma out!
It’s so hard to be distanced from friends, especially in middle school. I will pray over her. There is nothing easy in mamahood about seeing our kids suffer. I will pray for confidence and that through this season He will grow her dependence on Him and happiness in who He created her to be so that she emerges stronger and happier!
Please pray for my children. We are a military family and after 5 years stationed overseas we have just arrived back in the States and all 3 must start new schools. We are all grieving what we just left behind; there are nerves, fears and much anxiety over the big unknown as to what lies ahead next week. We know God has us in his hand and will watch over us, but hearing His voice and focusing on His promises have been very hard; this adjustment has been huge already and school hasn’t even started.
First of all, THANK YOU for your family’s service to our country. I have a good friend whose husband is currently deployed again. A military life is a sacrifice for the whole family for our protection. There aren’t words enough for my gratitude.
I will definitely pray. The cultural, social, and emotional transitions you face are huge but God is bigger, Lean in, girl, and know that we are behind you
