“Mom, I have a question…”
I don’t know about you, but sometimes this statement can send chills up and down my spine. My girls are smart. They are curious. And sometimes their desire to understand the world and life and their faith come with questions I don’t always have the answers to.
Usually, when I don’t have an answer I say something like, “Wow. That is a great question. I’m not 100% sure, but I’ll se if I can find the answer and we can talk again later.”
When they were little, this type of “investigation” may include me phoning a friend or asking my husband.
Lately, as my girls are for the most part teenagers, their questions are giving me pause.
They need answers to REALLY BIG questions. I don’t always have an answer.
On top of my 4 girls, every Sunday I teach an 11th grade girls life group.
They have questions too.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
I study God’s Word consistently. I know it holds the key to the questions we all have. I teach my girls and many others on a regular basis. But I do not have a seminary degree. I always wished I could have spent my “learning years” studying God’s Word in depth with trained teachers. At this point in my life it is highly unlikely I will be able to pursue a seminary education.
But I still have questions.
And girls with questions.
I’d like to know more than I do.
My friends Whitney Capps (Proverbs 31 Speaker and Lifeway Author) and Angie Elkins (Host of Chatologie Podcast) have a new online community called Simple Seminary that is custom made for moms like us—because they are MOMS too! Each month they provide new content to help women like us who have questions understand the Bible better. They hold our hand, (because who doesn’t need encouragement), keep us focused and accountable, and help us (at our OWN PACE!) make progress.
All for about the cost of a fancy coffee drink each week. (about $6 each week)
Each month they provide:
- Video driven teaching with companion study guide each month
- Community interaction with a place to ask QUESTIONS (hallelujah!)
- LIVE Q&A with Whitney Capps and her teaching team (including her dad who is a senior pastor and holds a PhD. from Liberty University).
I am so excited about Simple Seminary that I’m joining them too. I wanted to share this with you because when I find something I think you will love, I have to tell you. It is what us girl moms do. Topics will include…
The Fall Semester for the “class of 2019″ is only open for a few more weeks. Jump in for a month or 10. You can pay as you go an in the process you will learn TRUTH that might just change how you study the Word forever. It will also give you a little confidence when your daughter asks the really tough questions because you have become a student first.
And now you can tell her what you learned at class instead of the other way around.
